Marvel’s The Avengers is the first Marvel’s film that assembles all the most popular comic book characters including Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and etc. Marvel’s The Avengers was first released in 2012. The director of this film is Joss Whedon and the writers of this film are Joss Whedon and Zak Penn. The leading actors are Robert Downey Jr.(Tony Stark/Iron Man), Chris Evans(Steve Rogers/Captain America), Mark Ruffalo(Bruce Banner/The Hulk) and Chris Hemsworth(Thor) and the leading actress are Scarlett Johansson(Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow) and Gwyneth Paltrow(Pepper Potts). When it first came out, the total box office worldwide was 1,518,815,515 dollars. 41% are domestic box office and 59% are international box office. I read one of the reviews on “Rotten Tomatoes”.The name of this review is “What a marvel!” and the author of this review is Deborah Ross. In conclusion, the author mentions that it is really a huge and hard challenge for the director and the film itself because combining so many superheroes characters in one film is actually very difficult and even tediously long. However, the author believes that Marvel’s The Avengers directed by Joss Whedon perfectly shows us every superhero with vividness and there is no sense of disobedience when different kinds of superheroes are showing in one scene. Just as she says in the review, “The Hulk is the best character by a long shot, as he gets his own tragi-comic arc, and Ruffalo’s lovely performance hits the ball right out the park. Also, Captain America is quite funny, so uptight and nerdy and old-fashioned,”.
Marvel’s The Avengers mainly shows audiences the big assembles of all the superheroes of Marvel from the comic book characters and each superhero, especially Black Widow shows strong and powerful gender roles for males and females. In the film—14:16, Black Widow is extracting confession by torturing and after a phone call by “S.H.I.E.L.D”, she says: “Let me put you on hold” and then destroys the enemies within just one minute.(below is the screenshot that Black Widow is fighting with the enemies.)
This really shows a powerful and skilled agent of “S.H.I.E.L.D” to the audiences, especially women that every woman can also be confident and strong enough to defeat their “enemies” and solve their problems. Another scene in the movie about Black Widow—01:04:15, when Loki is captured on the ship, Black Widow says to Loki, “I want to know what you’ve done to Agent Barton. Love is for children. I owe him a debt.” Black Widow cares about his old friend, Agent Barton and tries to get something useful from Loki. This dialogue also represents and teaches a gender role for females that women care about their old friends in a very dangerous situation and try to find a way to help their friends. There are a lot of things in common between Marvel’s The Avengers and Iron Man. Black Widow in Marvel’s The Avengers and Mrs. Pepper in Iron Man all represent good gender roles for females that women are also powerful and full of confidence and they are all the independent part of the movie. All these two characters teach us that women can also fight like men and have the ability to solve some stubborn problems and sometimes they are even better than males.
