Iron Man is the first official movie of Marvel Cinematic Universe. This film introduces one of the most important marvel heroes to the audiences. Iron Man was first released in 2008, the director of this film was Jon Favreau and the writers of this film were Mark Fergus, Haw Obstby, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, Stan Lee, Don Heck, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby. The leading actor is Robert Downey Jr.(Tony Stark/the "Iron Man") and the leading actor is Gwyneth Paltrow.(Pepper Potts/the coadjutress) When it first came out, the total box office worldwide was 585,796,247 dollars. 54.5% are domestic box office and 45.5% are international box office. I read one of the reviews on “Rotten Tomatoes”. The name of this review is “Iron Man 10 Years on: A Flawed but Fun Start to the Marvel Cinematic Universe” and the author is Kaitlyn Booth. To sum up, The author believed that even though there were some shortcomings about the movie plots, the whole film’s advantages actually outweighed the disadvantages. Just as the author said in the review, “and, despite the flaws, it's still one hell of a ride a decade later.”
Iron Man mainly shows and introduces us the characteristic of the hero, iron man and this characteristic tells us some good qualities for males. In the film—08:09, Tony Stark said: “I guarantee you, the day weapons are no longer needed to keep the peace. I’ll start making bricks and beams for baby hospitals.” We can learn something from what Stark said that he did not think that the arms and ammunition are dangerous and lethal and he did not want to take responsibility of making nuclear weapons. However, Tony Stark changed his mind and decided to shut down the Stark company because the mass-destruction weapons would cause a huge damage to the world and kill tons of innocent people.(below is a screenshot of Iron Man that the dangerous missile beside Tony Stark is made of Stark Industries)
Just as Tony Stark said in the movie,(45:39) “I came to realize that I have more to offer this world than just making things that blow up. And that is why, effective immediately, I am shutting down the weapons manufacturing division of Stark International company.” The opinion that Stark changed and the decision that Stark made taught us good and positive equality of males. A man should take his own responsibility and correct his faults effectively and immediately.Comparing Iron Man to the later films of Marvel, I find out that something has changed about the leading actress, Pepper Potts. In Iron Man, Pepper was just a coadjutress of Tony Stark which means she was kind of an accessory for serving as a foil to Tony Stark. However, in Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3, Pepper’s characteristics are stronger and smarter and she has the ability to solve some stubborn problems on her own. This shows that recent days the films concentrate more and more about the gender role of females that women can also be heroines and indispensable parts of the films.
